Oceans of Eyes

Leaning into the afternoons I cast my sad nets

towards your oceanic eyes.

There in the highest blaze my solitude lengthens and flames,
its arms turning like a drowning man's

I send out red signals across your absent eyes

that smell like the sea or the beach by a lighthouse.

You keep only darkness, my distant female,
from your regard sometimes the coast of dread emerges.
Leaning into the afternoons I fling my sad nets
to that sea that is thrashed by your oceanic eyes.

The birds of night peck at the first stars

that flash like my soul when I love you.

The night gallops on its shadowy sea shedding blue tassels over it's peaks.

{Go Forth and Live Responsibly}
 sea, surf, summer, and amore

poem; Pablo Neruda 1924-1973 (last line changed)

Hello Deb:
The modern romantic novel has just been usurped!

What a beautiful tapestry you stitch here of word and image, just as two lives are woven into one.

Happy summer days!!

Deb, this was NOT at all your usual witty post, therefore, I had to read it 2X's to make certain I understood.
Now, I'm not certain I understand.
Casting nets of sadness is making me feel sad.

So beautiful - in words and photos. Hope you're not feeling quite so wistful as the mood and it's just the romantic mode that's swept you away!

I had to pull myself back from all the hypnotic beauty just so I could leave this comment...I'm going to dive right back in afterwards and let the sun, waves, and poetry float me away again to the breezy realm you've created here...just beautiful Deb.
The sea and love mingle so beautifully together...
